There is severe dearth of data scientists, business consultants, statistical analysts to the extent that demand exceeds the current supply. Job skillsets required by these jobs are very specific to statistical analysis, machine learning, mathematical modelling and econometric analysis. Since these jobs require extensive domain specific knowledge, these cannot be replaced by any science / engineering / management graduates.
There are specific job notifications released by Central Government managed Organizations such as Indian Statistical Services, Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, National Council for Applied Economic Research, National Sample Survey Office etc., which require the applicants to have specialized in statistics in higher education. Within private sector also, there are huge number of openings for following job roles: Data Analyst, Statistician, Risk / Insurance / Investment Analyst, Econometrician, Business Consultant / Analyst, Actuarial Manager etc. These jobs require the candidate to have high proficiency in statistics and analytics. In industries like Pharma & Health care, Telecom, Banking and Financial Institutions, Insurance, IT / Consulting / Analytics, there are exclusive jobs for candidates who have statistical and analytical proficiency.

The vision of the program is to generate a pool of highly qualified scientific talent who can fulfil the needs of Research Institutions as well as the demands in industry setting in the areas of Statistics, Consultancy and Analytics.
Many new areas of Statistics are emerging and are showing their significant importance to the age of data analytics such as Big Data and Machine Learning. The classical statistical tools are being modified to form new techniques and methods to deal with the challenges coming from industries like IT, Telecom, Entertainment, Insurance, Banking, Pharmaceutical etc. The program is continually revised to suit to the industry needs and address emerging global demands.
Details of the Program:
BSc Applied Statistics and Analytics offered by NMIMS Hyderabad is an amalgamation of applied statistics orientation with machine learning & business analytics orientation. Hence it is different from traditional BSc Statistics / Mathematics Degree which is only Statistics/ Maths focussed. This course is 4 layered with objective to teach you 4 inter-related disciplines which will open doors to futuristic career opportunities. They are:

2. Mathematics
3. Data Science and Predictive Analytics
4. Business Economics
USP of the course is blending latest developments in the fields of business / statistics/ Data science as a part of program curriculum. Beyond traditional statistical / mathematical courses. Students are taught cutting edge subjects like Marketing Analytics, Financial Risk Analysis, Actuarial Science, R & Python programming, Visual Analytics and other industry demanding contemporary subjects.
Course Structure
Industrial Internship
Starting from third semester, students have to mandatorily undergo industry-oriented projects as a part of the course curriculum. The objective of these projects is to apply theoretical knowledge learned in the course to applied settings and communicate the results to relevant industry stake holders for decision making / policy making. In the entire process students will learn how to identify the problem and recast business / economic problem as research problem and apply various statistical / econometric tools to come to meaningful solution.

Is this program residential?
The program is non-residential. The program will be conducted at Tarnaka Campus. However students from other cities can stay in near-by accommodation facilities to attend regular classes.
Should students take any entrance test for enrolment into this program?
No. Currently, we don’t take admission via any entrance test. However, to qualify for eligibility, student should have student mathematics / statistics in intermediate / 10+ 2 level, and should have secured greater than 50% in mathematics / statistics.
Merit list will be based on performance of the candidate in Mathematics / Statistics marks obtained in 10+2 or Equivalent examination.
Expected Class Size?
Total intake is limited to 60 students.
What is the duration of this program?
The duration of the program is 3 years, spread over 6 semesters including projects
What is the profile of the professors who teach for this course?
At NMIMS Hyderabad, we have professors with excellent academic orientation. All professors of the program are PhDs/Post-Doctoral candidates from prestigious institutes. Few of them have foreign exposure also.
Does the program offer Placement assistance?
Yes, we provide placement assistance. NMIMS Hyderabad’s MBA PROGRAM is Accredited with prestigious European accreditation called AMBA. AMBA stands for association of MBAs.
